Dear Dr. Tyson,

I hope this email finds you well.

Nearly eighteen years ago, on December 18, 2007, we had a brief email exchange. I was in the nascent stages of developing a new cosmological model, and you responded with a concise and fair challenge that has guided my work ever since:

"Ideas are cheap. Detailed predictions of unknown phenomena from those ideas is the real testing ground. When you produce such a list of testable predictions I will be happy to comment on it." -NDTyson

I am writing to you today to respectfully take you up on that generous offer.

Over the intervening years, my initial concepts have evolved into a complete, self-contained cosmological framework: The KnoWellian Universe Theory (KUT). This theory proposes a fundamental re-architecting of reality, beginning not with a singular Big Bang, but with a different structure for time itself.

A Universe in Three Times

At its heart, KUT proposes that time is not a linear progression but a ternary structure, with three co-existing and perpetually interacting realms:

  1. The Past (Control): A deterministic, structuring principle that flows outward, representing all that has become manifest. Its large-scale cosmological effect is what we observe as Dark Energy.

  2. The Future (Chaos): A field of pure potentiality and novelty that collapses inward, representing all that has yet to become. Its large-scale gravitational effect is what we observe as Dark Matter.

  3. The Instant (Consciousness): The singular, eternal "now" that exists at every point in spacetime. It is the nexus where the Control and Chaos fields interact, and it is this synthesis that generates all becoming, from quantum collapse to conscious experience.

In this framework, the universe possesses a memory substrate—the KnoWellian Resonant Attractor Manifold (KRAM)—a higher-dimensional geometric field that is imprinted by every event. This manifold guides future events along paths of least action, providing a physical mechanism for morphic resonance and explaining the fine-tuning of physical constants as the result of countless cosmic cycles of evolution and filtering.

Revisiting the Double-Slit Experiment

This brings me back to my original 2007 email. I intuited then that the material of the slits was not a passive screen but an active participant. KUT provides the physical mechanism for this.

The theory posits that fundamental particles are stable, self-sustaining topological structures—KnoWellian Solitons—with a torus knot geometry. The interference pattern in the double-slit experiment, therefore, is not the result of a probabilistic wave-particle duality. It is the predictable, deterministic result of an incoming KnoWellian Soliton interacting with the stable, complex KnoWellian field structures that constitute the atoms of the slit material. The inherent geometry of the fields dictates the outcome.

A List of Testable Predictions

As you requested, here is a summary of the primary, falsifiable predictions derived from the KnoWellian Universe Theory:

  1. CMB Geometric Structure: The theory predicts that the fine-grained structure of the KRAM is a specific pentagonal tiling known as the Cairo Q-Lattice (CQL). Therefore, the anisotropies in the Cosmic Microwave Background are not purely random or Gaussian. A topological analysis of the full-sky Planck data (retaining the monopole information) should reveal a coherent geometric pattern isomorphic to the Cairo Q-Lattice. This is the theory's most immediate and decisive test.

  2. Anisotropies in Cosmic Voids: Large cosmic voids, regions seemingly empty of matter, should not be perfectly isotropic. They should exhibit faint, large-scale, coherent patterns in their vacuum energy fluctuations. These patterns would correspond to the "ghosts" of ancient structures from prior cosmic cycles, whose imprints still exist as shallow valleys on the KRAM. This would be a "Cosmic Memory Background" radiation, distinct from the CMB.

  3. The Geometric Origin of the Fine-Structure Constant: The theory predicts that the fine-structure constant, α ≈ 1/137.036, is not an arbitrary number but emerges as a pure, dimensionless ratio of the KnoWellian Soliton's intrinsic capacity to interact to the vacuum's fundamental capacity to host that interaction (specifically, the ratio of the Soliton's interaction cross-section to the area of the Cairo Q-Lattice's coherence domain).

  4. Neural Cairo Topology: As the brain is a complex self-organizing system coupled to the universe's fundamental dynamics, high-coherence cognitive states (such as deep meditation or creative insight) should produce transient, recurring geometric patterns in functional brain connectivity (via high-density EEG or MEG) that are isomorphic to the Cairo Q-Lattice.

I believe this framework and its predictions fulfill the challenge you set for me. KUT offers a complete, paradox-free, and most importantly, testable alternative to the standard cosmological model.

I understand the demands on your time are immense, but any thoughts you might have would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for your consideration and for the original inspiration to pursue this work with the rigor it deserves.

Best wishes,

David Noel Lynch
